Window Tinting Film Shades Explained
In this day and age everybody is interested in having their windows tinted, whether it’s a vehicle, a commercial building or office, or even a home. For many consumers it can often be a difficult process to be presented with a variety of different types of window film options to choose from. The more options there are, the more difficult it is to settle on a type of film and shade for your vehicle or property. Here’s an overview of some of the fundamentals behind window tinting film and shades.
The tinting film basics
There are a few major window film brands that you certainly want to look out for when inquiring about window film. There are dozens of different brands out there, but if you’re looking for a quality product that will last a lifetime and is backed by a lifetime warranty you certainly want to request top brands such as Sun-Gard film, Solar Gard, and 3M. These three brands are three tinting industry leaders and are quick to slap a lifetime warranty on all of their products.
Which shade is best for you
If you have done your window tinting research or have had a vehicle or property tinted in the past you’re most likely aware that there are different shades of film to choose from, and they each have a corresponding percentage. Many of our customers are confused about these percentages and what they mean.
To put things simply, the percentage associated with each type of film is directly related to the amount of light that can pass through the film. For example, if you have a 25% film, that means that only 25% of light will be allowed through the glass. If you have a 5% film, otherwise known as a black-out film, the window will only allow 5% of light to pass through it. Many states have different laws and regulations about window tinting film, so be sure to read about California’s tinting laws before you have your windows tinted.
