Home Window Tinting: Double the Savings
While residential window tinting is certainly a growing trend in sun-soaked cities across the United States, many residents hesitate to invest in having their windows tinted because they don’t see possibility of a return on investment. Most homeowners currently have their windows tinted for privacy reasons and to achieve a modern look for their homes. The truth of the matter, however, is that while tinted windows offer privacy and a sleek look they also hcan save homeowners hundreds and thousands of dollars each year.
1st Round of Savings: Energy Costs
Residential window tinting can reduce both glare and heat from the sun, which in turn greatly lowers your energy costs. The average homeowner spends 60% of their energy bill on heating and cooling. When a tint is applied to your house it protects yourself and others from the harmful UV rays and also reduces the after effects of the glare. The reduced heat results in a direct decrease in cooling cost of about 50%. However, this isn’t held to just the summer; tinted windows will help retain heat, keeping it from leaking out the windows in the winter.
The savings from your home doesn’t stop here. The reduced UV rays will cause less fading on your drapes, furniture and the carpet. The rays, depending on the location of your home, can deteriorate the color of your furniture at a rate of 20% per year. The tint keeps these rays out and preserves your belongings longer.
Lastly, certain types of window film can even help burglary-proof your home. These types are designed to make glass shatter-resistant by holding the glass pieces together when broken. Alpha tinting has recently invested in a new type of Nano technology that we hope will become the benchmark for home invasion prevention tinting.
2nd Round of Savings: Tax Breaks
From 2009 through the end of this year the federal government is giving a 30% off tax credit for any person who has window film installed in their house. Any homebuyer who purchases a qualifying energy window control film is eligible for a tax credit up to $1,500. Below is listed some more useful links for state specific tax credits regarding energy efficient tax breaks.
